remove shotguns from engineers/techs/hotwires

I always thought this was a little ridiculous. An engineer doesn't need a shotgun and a hotwire/tech definitely doesn't need a shotgun, they are more than powerful and useful enough without it.

plus whats the point of the shotgun character without him being unique anymore? Anyone else feel this way? Just a thought I had.

Also some of these new maps in rotation like bunkers, whats that even doing in there? Maybe theres some better maps out there? I remember aircraftkiller used to make a bunch.

The really annoying part is you can not remove them from all characters using !drop :(. for me: shotgun gets in the way of scrolling quickly between my weapons.

There isn't a valid argument for shotguns on engineers. I'd like to hear one.

The engi isn't supposed to be able to defend himself or cover his c4s so easily while rushing a building. I have cleared the hand too many times while rushing with other engies.

At first I didn't like shotgun engineers but after so long I am just used to it now, it doesn't bother me anymore. I don't enjoy playing Bunkers as well.

remove sand, leave bunkers alone.

I love the shotty for defending my c4 on a building :D

well the point is its too easy to defend.

like the other day I was rushing the refinery on glacier as a tech. I took out 2 engineers with 2 hs and destroyed the building when I really had no business getting such an easy building kill.

they should have killed me easily and saved the refinery.

I agree, remove the shotguns!  An apc/engy rush is very OP, HSing every spawner in a building.  Engy's already have Remote c4 for short range damage, giving them a shotgun gives them an unfair adv for a 0 credit troop.  Let's not play Renegods and start changing the original characters & tanks please!!  Westwood had it right, it's what we're all here to play!  And especially now that Renegade is getting old, maybe we should pay a bit of homage to it and try to keep it as close to original as possible.  Let the ultraAOW people mod the game into garbage.  RenCorner should be the server for people who enjoy regular ren.

Edit:  1 last thing, some use the argument that 'shotguns are funner', well pistol whipping and remote tossing is also pretty fun, and it's not fun getting buildings owned by apcs full of engys with shotguns.  You could be a mobius in there and get owned.

the shotgun character has a worthless sniper rifle to make them unique.

what should be done is equalizing damage on nod auto-rifles.

what would be better is giving gdi soldiers grenade launchers and nod soldiers flame throwers.

Imo, grenade launchers are more fun to shoot, and more powerful aswell. They have great direct-hit potential, can deal damage to pockets of enemies and can be bounced into otherwise unreachable surfaces.

I'm sure you know the story behind the buffed GDI Autorifle, the Nod Soldier's bigger head and the extremely fat Nod Shotgun Trooper.

 

If you want to make Engineers fun, give them all Tiberium Auto Rifles, and watch them all kill themselves when they're on low HP. Weeeeeeeeeee!

I figured it was to balance the early game, since gdi's tanks are more expensive than nods.

I actually agree with this. Great when you're rushing, but crappy if you're being overrun by an early rush or just spawned.

pistol is very useful and strong not just only got a HEADSHOT by shotgun

 

but it doesn't bother me anyway

Yeah, it was mainly that, to balance the early game in maps like Field. Destroying the Nod harv would allow GDI to rollout meds at roughly the same time as Nod rolls out arties. This is why the GDI harv docks a lot faster on Field than on Nod aswell.

The fact arts blow away mrls are the exact reason why gdi needs this advantage early game. In the words of spoony, by some miracle Westwood got it right, please don't change that.

Agreed. An early APC rush at a building is almost impossible to counter if your team is dicking around at different locations.
Yes it's not impossible, but most of the time i'm going solo against like 4 shotgunners, some also using c4s. Fully agree with GoTWhisKeY.
